❤️Happy World Goth Day 2019 (Makeup Look & Cemetery Visit! Plus some Goth history on myself!!)❤️ | Hannabal Marie

We decided, since it's the week of Memorial Day, we'd check out one of our local cemeteries.
Hello ladies and gents
Another day, another post...
For those who celebrate--Happy World Goth Day!!

I've been "Goth" for close to 10+ years.
Have had a love/hate relationship with the title for many many reasons...
mostly consisting of cruel kids telling me whom is and whom isn't "gothier than thou"
But the fact of the matter doesn't concern opinions...I will always love the word.
With or without an approval.

I can go into detail but it will take much too long and quite frankly, it's not that important.
What IS important is that I have found my love for the Subculture once again and can proudly claim that over 10+ years of trial and error. Heartache and ridicule. Being "Goth" isn't a fashion statement but something that can only be felt when you acknowledge that you are and will always be "Goth."
Maybe not to the book nor to most people's ideals of what "Goth" is defined, but to yourself YOU can be as Goth as YOU want. If you love the subculture, the lifestyle and if you feel as if you are Goth...then YOU ARE!

Here are some of my school IDs and my ID when I turned 18. I wish I had my other 2 years in school, but I don't have them anymore. Those two years was when I was the most "goth" by definition. But you can see a bit of it in these pics. Please note: my style always changed, every single day. I was constantly always evolving--like a damn pokemon. lol

But this post isn't about defining what Goth is, it's about celebrating such a grand occasion.
So, here we go:

🎠Curious Revival--Eclectic Vintage Assemblage Doll Art (+ A Human Porcelain Doll Look)🎠 | Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gentlemen,
As an avid collector of the strange and unusual oddity--finding items that both speak to me on a "odd" level, as well as being beautifully designed enough to wear and own is something I have always felt lacked in my world. Usually, I'd take to thrift stores to find strange items or stumble upon a gold mine surfing on eBay--but never, in a million years, have I ever found an artist who works with two things I am quite passionate about--antique doll parts AND vintage items.

Now, I have seen doll assemblage art done before
but never in such a jaw-dropping way that gives you a bit of pride to own.

First impression upon receiving my package! The green paper tissue gave it such a nice touch!

Curious Revival combines both vintage and doll into unique, one-of-a-kind wearable jewelry or home decor for the morbid at heart, like myself.

Quirky in contrast, with names such as "Oh, You Beautiful Doll" with a porcelain doll face smiling up at you from a vintage bracelet or "Be a deer and go fork yourself” with a cute ceramic ballerina bear dancing gracefully on top of an old vintage bottle, holding a silver fork.

The names that Absinthe Angi (The creator of Curious Revival) comes up with are such punny knee-slappers that just makes owning these items all the more sweeter!
The logo is truly fitting of someone like me~

True to the name, these items are indeed just that--curiouser and curiouser.
It warms the heart of this vintage loving, antique admiring, oddity collector to extremes.

If you have a soft spot for things such as this or if you need a great conversation starter--

I'd highly advise checking out this shop and placing a purchase.
I have a few items to show you, along with a look I designed to thank the creator for creating such gorgeous items for me.
I will get straight into my showcase and stop my blabbing.

In short, I really admire Curious Revival and it's just safe to say--
you have to see it, to believe it...

🔥"Jack Straw" Inspired By The Ancient Effigies of Hungary🔥 | Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
To end the "New Years" in style, I decided to do a sort of  "educated" makeup look.
Something that was much more than slapping on some makeup and calling it a day.

I wanted to do something that would inform people just as well as educate them, too.
So, I give you--JACK STRAW!

"Hurts my ears to listen, Shannon
Burns my eyes to see.
Cut down a man in cold blood, Shannon
Might as well be me...

So, Jack Straw from Wichita
Cut his buddy down
Dug for him a shallow grave
And layed his body down.
"

In Hungary, they celebrate the New Year by burning effigies or "scapegoats" known as Jack Straws.
They are supposed to represent the evils and misfortunes of the past year bundled up in a "human" body. Before they burn them, however, they parade our the town holding them up and showing them to the townspeople.

If you google search "Jack Straw" not a lot is up about them.
I had to dig a little deep into old texts and documents to find out just this much about them but it is there, you just need the right word usage. Otherwise, you'll end up looking up something else--like the vintage game of Jack Straws.

Upon stumbling on this bit of information and the overall significance these effigies held with some people in Hungary, it really made me fall in love with the custom as a whole.

I am a HUGE lover of the classic Scarecrow!
So this really tug at my existing love of the similar humanoid thing.

And since I am a artist by own personal right--I felt compelled to try my hand at a look inspired by this old custom. I really hope I did the Hungarian people justice for such a beautiful tradition!

I really felt like it was best I recreated this, not only to inform those who didn't know but also perhaps shine a little light on this custom for myself. Partake in the burning of my 'older self' and rid myself of my own evils and misfortunes of my own past years. Thus by recreating this look, I am--in some way or another--becoming my own effigy!

💛The Golden Years (New Years Makeup Collaboration w/ Ghost Lee) | Hannabal Marie💛

Hello ladies and gents
Aside from the gentleman look I created in a previous post HERE
I also created a flapper look inspired by New Years vintage postcards, as well.

This was an actual collaboration between me and Ghost Lee Art!
I chose to do a vintage inspired look that is supposed to represent the New Years in the past,
while he did a more modern future approach.
Together, we have the PAST & FUTURE!

"Go thou thy way and I go mine,
Apart, yet not afar;
Only a thin veil hangs between
The pathways where we are"

👉Thrift Store Find: 'Two Hats' Haunted Doll | Hannabal Marie

My little haunted doll, 'Two Hats' wants to wish you all a very happy new year!
He's quite ecstatic about it, actually.
He kept falling out of his cabinet onto my floor, trying to get my attention.
He's my little cutie-pie~

I got him a while ago, from a lady who claimed he holds a spirit inside of him.
But she also told me, she found him at a thrift store and did some work on him.
She said that the spirit is of a quirky young man who like to chaos innocent mischief.
Not to harm, but to get a laugh out of you because he doesn't like people being upset or sad.

"Tarot of Bones" Review/Showcase | Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gentlemen,
Very rarely do I ever feel a connection quite as strong as I did
when I first seen this deck of tarot cards.

Tarot of Bones instantly spoke to me in a way that was more than human words.
An animal voice speaking to the animal within.
That was how I felt when I first seen this beautiful deck of Tarot cards.

Lupa, the creator behind Tarot of Bones, with the help of Sandra Swan behind the camera,
did an amazing job in capturing and displaying nature for what it truly is--life and death.

🐞Taxidermy Bug Brooches--"Jumping Jack" & "Little Miss Soon-To-Be" | Hannabal Marie

My little brooches.

Hello ladies and gents
Today I am bringing you a post that will either make people intrigued...
or just really gross them out.

I love the preservation of critters in whatever form they can be obtained.
But most importantly, the preservation of insects.
The look of the butterflies pinned to foam boards.

I want to address that I would never hurt a living thing intentionally
but I do love and respect all aspects of life--both living and dead.

The following critters were found as they are shown.
My dog actually brought me the dead grasshopper, so he was the one who supplied me. lol
I only picked up the carcass and used it for the following pieces of art.

It was either do this in remembrance or have my dog chomp on them.
I couldn't let him munch on this beautiful little guy.
But thanks, Charlie--for giving me the little present! :)

💚 Thrift HAUL-O-Ween Finds--Demonic Baby Doll, A Board Game & Vtg Halloween Makeup! 💚 | Hannabal Marie

The dolls they had on display.
Hello ladies and gents
I have a lovely post full of amazing finds today
from the Thrift Store.

I have been postponing this specific post for a while,
because I wanted to make sure I got enough items to create a good juicy post with.
And I am readier than ever to post now.

So, go grab yourself a nice cup of Java (or tea, for those who don't like coffee!)

Some costumes they were selling.
and get ready for a ton of cool items I found at the thrift store.

A lot of the things I found today has been collected throughout the month of September.
A few tossed in here and there.
I have mentioned this in a previous post
but I wanted to make sure you understood--
everything I find usually takes a lot of time and effort to obtain.
I just collect and keep collecting until I think it's a good time to post about 'em.
I never purchase anything I don't personally love, I'm not trying to make a profit--
I am just collecting because I love what I find.

I might, one day, become very serious about this thing
and do it as a job to make cash but right now,
I just like to thrift for the sake of thrifting.

More costumes on the racks.

I am an avid Thrifter, so I like to pop in sometimes JUST to see what they have on the shelves.
Most of the time, I will come out with one or two items. Sometimes, nothing.
But on the grand good occasion--I will come home with bags upon bags of cheap, amazing finds.

This specific post is made out of a few trips.
All of which were amazing to find in of themselves.
But overall, I am so happy and ready to showcase them to you now.

I also took some snaps of the thrift store itself.
I wanted to do a sort of "walkthrough"--so I hope you like it.

Clown Doll Hugs (A welcome to the family I am collecting!) // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
Today is a mini photoshoot with some of my dolls I recently got at various thrift store trips.

I just want to say that I am sooooo damn happy I got to find and own all of the dolls I seen total.

I was so scared that they'd cost a fortune when I seen them and in my head,
I was narrowing down my fav of the three...
but when I seen the price they were selling them at, I nabbed them all at once. lol

Anywho, I could rant and rant about nothing all day but I shall just skip the introductions and go straight into the showcase.

Thrift Haul: Dead Animals, Human Hair Doll & Wooden Kitty Cats // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gentlefish
I hope you are excited for another haul post.
Because I know I am.
Finding all these wonderful things has been quite a riot
and I am just happy and quite thrilled to be able to show them to you today.

Anyways, before I get to the meat and bones of this post
I want to address a question I was asked in my facebook inbox the other day.
(for those unaware, I share my posts on my facebook fan page~)
A friend of mine asked;
"How is it that you find all these awesome things at once?"

She basically wanted to know how I am so "lucky" to have found half of what I have for all these frequent posts.
The answer is simple: I don't.
At least, not all at once. lol

I actually have a big tub in my room that I let pile up with thrift items until I am able to put things away. But before I put them away, I take photos of them and pile them into a folder on my laptop.
Before long, I have several different folders full of sets to which I categorize and post accordingly.

So, some of the things I find in the span of a week. Other things will take longer.
A single day could give me an armful of finds while other days I will only nab one tiny thing.
It really depends on the day and what is there when I check out my store.

Also, we have quite a few thrift stores on the block.
Perhaps even one on every corner, more or less. hahaa
It also helps that I work at a very huge one, so I get first dibs on the good stuff when and if I see it fit.

but ya, thought I'd answer this publicly--in case anyone else is wondering, as well.

Now, onto the next set of items for you all to see today!
Disclaimer: If you are easily offended by dead animals/taxidermy/vintage fur and other odd specimens--please, click away. Some of the items today will showcase just that. Just a warning!

Thrift Haul: Tom Waits Postcards, Antique Music Dolls & A Vtg Wedding Gown // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
I come bringing another lovely haul for you guys and gals.

This post will showcase some amazing finds, such as:
A vintage wedding dress, Tom Waits postcards, Antique music dolls and fitted T's.

Enough with pointless blabber.
I will just jump right into the showing.

Thrift Haul: Mannequin, Vtg Accordion & Angels // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
Another lovely little haul for you guys today.
I am sorry for not frequently posting like I used to.
I can sit here and give excuses but I wont. haha
I just will say that I have been collecting
and putting things aside to create lovely posts for you all to see.

For all those new who are just stumbling on this post--I want to introduce myself:
The name is Hannabal Marie and I'm a hoarder. lol jkjk

Actually, I like to thrift shop to such a degree that the thrill of "finding a good find" is so addicting to me that I have started posting my wares for the public eye because a few of my close friends and relatives are just as addicted to thrifting as I am
and requested I do this as a huge haul--so, here I am obliging their command. hahaa

I get asked this all the time;
"What do you look for in items?"
And I can't properly give an explanation other than I like what most people hate.
I like finding the odd and unusual as well as the tacky and quite hideous.
(as someone pointed out to me once before! hahaa)
Anything really that would make a great photoshoot or go with any of my many collections;
Clown, vintage items, odd items and other. lol
I also own a record player, so old music is always great to collect, as well. lol

But enough chit-chat--you didn't come here to make conversation.
You came to gawk and gawk you shall. <3

I have so many great things today--from clothing to a lot of vintage items.
I hope you enjoy.
So please, grab yourself a hot cup of coffee or tea
and scroll through some of the junk I call treasures~

Thrift Store Haul--VTG Sombrero, Decapitated Geisha & Odds n Ends // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
I have another lovely haul for you all.
Just some random trinkets and thingy-ma-bobs
I collected throughout the week at local penny shops and thift stores.

I think you'll really like the collection I have to show you all today--
Because I sure loved them when I found them.

So, enough with my useless banter...
IT'S TIME TO SHOW SOME GOODS!

The first thing I seen hanging from a nail at my local thrift shop was this gorgeous Buddha plaque.

Thrift Store Haul--Odd Jewelry Mystery Grab Bags & More Antique Dolls // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
I bring you another thrift haul.
Like I mentioned in previous posts--I got some money from Christmas Cards that my friends and family sent me and decided to use it on some stuff.

I only ever shop at thrift stores anymore--so, it seems fit for me. lol

I really love thrifting odd things, so this was Christmas all over again.
I found some amazing little finds--mind you, these items were collected throughout the month from Jan 1st til now...every once in a while I'll pop into a thrift shop (we have a TON where I live, hence the frequent thrifting posts! lol) and I'll find something that catches my eye.
Majority of the time it will be relatively cheap--like a few dollars to maybe even some cents but a good portion of the time I have to sit back and contemplate if a item is really worth the double digits or not. lol

I don't know what is wrong with a few shops here but most of 'em have become department stores as of recently. Literally selling at the actual price-tag or even more.
I remember when Thrifted meant finding a good deal for ridiculously cheap but I don't even know anymore.

It's used items, you'd think you'd get a smaller price tag but alas,

I am just a sore purchaser who hates spending but loves finding the wares. lmfao

Anywho, here are my finds.
I hope you enjoy your stay~

The LAST Halloween Haul Of 2017 // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents
I am bringing you the very last Halloween Thrift Haul of 2017--At least, the last in the month of October.
*I will surely continue to make Halloween purchases if I ever find anything afterwards! lol*

But anywho, this shall be the very last in October--until Nov arrives and everything has to turn Turkey-like in appearance. *Cries*

Most of the items I got came from the thrift store, but I did purchase some items straight from eBay--I will start off with the thrift purchases first.

Shall we just skip straight to the showcase?
Yes, please!
First thing I found was this cute Halloween jester--I love these Sugar Loaf dolls. I have a cute bear and another clown girl, so she will be apart of my growing collection!

Halloween Thrift Haul: Stuffed Animals, Animatronics, VTG Decor & Puppets! // Hannabal Marie

Hello ladies and gents,
I have another HUGE Halloween thrift haul for the likes of you all.
I love this time of year because thrift stores tend to have all kinds of awesome vintage, old and sometimes brand-spanking new Halloween related items in stock.
I found some amazing finds that I would like you all to enjoy with me, so shall we then?

As is custom with most of my thrifting posts, I don't have a theme nor a "starting point".
I see, I grab--if it's in reasonable pricing range. lol
So, let's start with the this:
