🖤 DIY: Witch's Black Salt | Hannabal Marie 🖤

Hello everyone, I am going to be posting more witchy related content on this blog. I dabble in the occult and a lot of my stuff is usually done in the solitude of my own house but I feel I'm at a stage in my life that I want to share what I commonly know with those who aren't familiar with it. Surely, I'm not going to get too personal for my own sake but the basics will benefit just about everyone. From student to teacher. I will admit, I'm still learning myself BUT what I do know, I want to post. Maybe it will cross the path of someone who needs to find it. If you already know, don't be rude. Add in the comments what you'd like to contribute as an extended portion of what I have already posted but please don't be rude. I am always looking for alterations and different takes on things. The more, the better. The beauty of personal recipes is that we tailor them to what we find useful for ourselves. This works for me, that works for you. Together we can inspire and aspire. So, my first recipe to share today will be a common Black Salt.

Black Salt is widely known as an all encompassing protective salt that can be used for various different things--protection spells, banishing, breaking hexes. And in the reverse--to lay down hexes and curses. It can be sprinkled under pillows to ward off bad dreams, stored in jars or boxes to get rid of unwanted guests or spirits, cast a line across your door or window to barrier negative energies away, use in floor washes/door washes/cleansing ritual area, add into the bath whenever you feel depressed/angry/upset, keep it on your person to ward off gossip/bad influences/negativity, use it as an offering for Underworld deities/dark goddesses, as an offering to fire elementals/ancestors, use for any Dark Moon ritual, add in protected cases that contain your Scrying tools...you get the picture. It's a very powerful tool to add into your witchy cabinet.

Remember: Black Salt absorbs negativity. So, if you use this as a protective barrier--sweep it into the dirt to ground it, wash it away or cleanse the area free of it.

So, all this knowledge....let's make some!
Here's what you'll need:

  • Sea Salt. (Or any kind of salt. I use Dead Sea Salt!)
  • Ashes. Collected from smudging remnants, incense ash, charcoal, cast iron scrapings, ash from paper spells, or cultivated by burning ash producing ingredients. (Recipe for quick ashes below)
  • Black Pepper. (OPTIONAL: Used for Protection & Purification.)
  • Egg Shells (OPTIONAL: Used for boosted Protection & Healing.)

Simply mix them all together, using Palo Santo to bless the mixture in between grinding.
Watch my tutorial to get a better understanding of how to do the recipe.

Need Some Quick Sacred Ash?
Don't worry, I got a good little recipe to create some blessed ashes that work just as intense as anything else you'd stumble upon.

What you'll need:

  • Rosemary--Protection, Cleansing, Strength & Purification.
  • Bay Leaves (Write a symbol, sigil, rune that is personal to you before you burn it.)
  • Sage--(Yes, I'm indigenous) Protection & Purification.
  • One Matchstick--Write your purpose of the ash on the matchstick. If you are just making some for protection, write "protection."
  • Paper Spell--Write a rune, sigil or sacred word(s) on a piece of folded paper. You can also write your intention or whatever you feel connected to in regards to this ash creation. For the sake of this Black Ash recipe, I used pentacles on all my writing prompted items.

Just put that all in a fire safe bowl or pot and burn, baby burn! Collect your ash and you're done!

Safe To Eat?
Sorry, this is merely for spellwork. If you want edible Black Salt--look for Himalayan Black Salt, Black Lava Salt or Black Indian Salt. I also think you can mix Sea Salt & Edible Bamboo Activated Charcoal together. (Just consume cautiously!)

How To Keep It?
You can keep it up for a few years if stored in a mason jar, jelly jar, pickle jar, etc. I usually use mine up in due time, so I haven't found the proper expiration date yet but I'm sure it will store for a long time considering it's just ash & salt.

Ending Word:
Thank you for taking the time to dip into my fountain. I truly appreciate you. I hope you found this small little recipe useful. I love incorporating Black Salt as much as humanly possible. I keep a jar in my pocket or purse just to have on me. I tailor the salt to fit my personal needs. The beauty of this basic foundation of Black Salt is YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT TO IT! Here is a tip: Keep your incense ash from every spell you do. Depending on what exactly you are working on, you can make Black Salts for those specific things. I have bottles of ash from various different spells: Ash from Protection spells, Ash from Self-Love spells, etc. You can create custom Black Salts to use for specific spellworks. You can add boosting elements/herbs/floral/etc to enhance the Black Salt. I have a personal bottle where I only use it when I need intense protecting spells done.
